The Cuvée R. Lalou 1998 is much more than a quality campaign. Only the exceptionally good grapes from the best vineyards form the basis for this wine. In this case, the winemakers of Mumm, Dominique Demarville and his young successor Didier Marotti, used the best grapes. In addition, seven of the twelve Mumm Grand Cru vines were selected. They made half the cuvée from Chardonnay grapes and the other half from Pinot Noir grapes. As with previous Cuvées Prestiges, GH Mumm has only used the best juice of the first pressing – the ’tête de cuvée’. After years of ripening under ideal conditions the champagne is now ready to be drunk.
